Our Director of Bands at Morehead High School is Mr. Nathan Hines.
Mr. Hines holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from West Virginia University, with an emphasis in trumpet performance and orchestral and band conducting. Mr. Hines also holds Masters Degrees in Education and Special Education from California University of Pennsylvania.
During his undergraduate studies at West Virginia University, Mr. Hines studied trumpet under Dr. Charles Whitehill and Dr. John R. Winkler as well as band and orchestral conducting under Mr. Don Wilcox, and the late Lawrence Christianson.
He was a member of trumpet sections for the "Pride of West Virginia" Marching Band, WVU Wind Symphony, WVU Jazz Ensemble, and the WVU Symphony Orchestra.
During his enrollment in the master of education program at California University of Pennsylvania Mr. Hines served as a teaching assistant for the Cal U Band Program. Mr. Hines was awarded the Presidential Scholars Award for Academic Excellence and inducted into the Kappa Kappa Psi Band Fraternity in 2014.
Mr. Hines began his career in music education in 2000. He has taught elementary, middle, and high school instrumental music in Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.
Mr. Hines was named "Teacher of the Year" for Morehead High School in May of 2022 and was the "Teacher of the Year Runner-Up" for Rockingham County Schools in 2022-2023. Mr. Hines was selected to perform in the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade as a member of the "Band Directors Marching Band" in 2023.
