Meet Our Director of Bands:

Mr. Nathan Hines

 

Nathan Hines serves as the Director of Bands and Arts Department Chair at Morehead High School, as well as the Lead Band Director for Rockingham County Schools. Under his leadership, "The Pride of Morehead" continues a tradition of musical excellence, dedication, and high-energy performance.

Education & Musical Background

​

Mr. Hines earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from West Virginia University, specializing in trumpet performance as well as orchestral and band conducting. While at WVU, he studied trumpet under Dr. John R. Winkler and conducting under Don Wilcox and Lawrence Christianson. He actively performed in the trumpet sections of the acclaimed "Pride of West Virginia" Marching Band, the WVU Wind Symphony, the WVU Jazz Ensemble, and the WVU Symphony Orchestra.

He holds Master’s Degrees in Education and Special Education from California University of Pennsylvania, where he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the University Band Program. During his master's studies, Mr. Hines received the prestigious Presidential Scholars Award for Academic Excellence and was inducted into the Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity in 2014.

Distinctions & Community Leadership

​

A dedicated educator, Mr. Hines is a five-time nominee for Morehead High School Teacher of the Year, earning the title in May 2022. He was subsequently named the District Runner-Up for Rockingham County Schools Teacher of the Year for the 2022–2023 academic year.

​

On the national stage, Mr. Hines was selected as a member of the prestigious Band Directors Marching Band, performing in both the 2023 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and the 2026 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California.
